All in One
Meetup

For all of the folks hearing the buzzwords and hype around Cloud Native, Platform Engineering, and AI, and are wondering how it all comes together... Well do we have THE Meetup for you?!

Join us on August 21st at 6:00 PM, at Microsoft Reactor NYC, for an excellent event that will cover just enough of these topics to keep you entertained.

You'll come away with a sprinkle of platform engineering, a pinch of AI, and some fantastic cloud native demos to see it all in action, as well as some fun community networking, snacks & refreshments.

We have a fantastic lineup of speakers, check out their talks below and register to join us.

Justifying the Need for Platform Engineering: Building the Case for Transformation

Stefana Muller, SVP Cloud Infrastructure & Operations, Own

This talk provides a guide to justifying the transition to Platform Engineering within your organization. We will explore the key benefits, such as enhanced developer productivity, streamlined operations, and increased scalability, and compare these to traditional DevOps practices. Attendees will learn how to build a compelling business case, using metrics and real-world examples to highlight improvements in delivery speed, system reliability, and resource utilization. The talk will also cover strategies for aligning this transition with organizational goals and securing stakeholder buy-in.

DOWN with Shift Left: Why You Should be Shifting DOWN into the Platform

Scott Rosenberg, Lead Architect, CTO Office, TeraSky

We’ve all had just about enough with shift left at this point - which basically means let’s shift all of our problems onto someone else. If therapy and cognitive load are the outcomes we aim for, then shift left is great.

Otherwise, the shift left needs a rethink.

In this talk, Scott will rant about why shift left needs to ship out and introduce shifting down (the new and better version of shift left).

He'll discuss how we can empower our platforms (which everyone is already building anyway!) to make decisions developers shouldn’t have to make.

By shifting the complexity to our intelligent platform with its nifty gadgets and gizmos - we can offload & automate all the things - such as security scanning policies (defined by security engineers!), generation of manifests, building and rebasing images (built by DevOps!), leverage policy languages and security prioritization frameworks like VEX to make our decisions and much more. So for those of us left standing after it’s all been shifted onto our plates, come learn how to get down with the shifting––into the platform.

One size fits all - On AI, Platforms & Cloud Native.

Ramiro Berelleza, CEO & Co-Founder, Okteto

Your AI team doesn't need a platform, but a paved ramp sure can help!

The world of GenAI is moving fast. Blink, and there's a new model, blink twice, and there are two new GPUs. It's way too soon to start thinking about platforms, standardization, governance…

But that doesn't mean we should leave AI developers to figure everything out on their own! In this session, Ramiro will discuss the risks of premature platformatization, why Kubernetes is the best tool for AI Infrastructure, and how remote development environments are especially useful when it comes to building paved roads for AI development.

Building Generative AI apps with your data in Azure Cosmos DB

James Codella, Principal Product Manager, Azure CosmosDB

For today’s Gen-AI apps, fast performance, instant scalability, and cost-effectiveness are more critical than ever. This session will delve into the importance of these factors when building RAG pattern apps while maintaining low costs.

We will explore the capabilities of Azure Cosmos DB and its new vector database capabilities using DiskANN, a technology developed by Microsoft Research. With DiskANN, users can achieve low latency, high-recall vector search at any scale. Combined with Azure Cosmos DB’s unique scale-out architecture and instant autoscale, it provides enormous value with a cost profile unmatched by any vector database in the market today. This allows for the development of large-scale applications that are not only powerful and reliable but also economical.  Join us and discover how to architect high accuracy, low latency, and cost-effective RAG pattern applications at any scale using Azure Cosmos DB and DiskANN. Regardless of your role, this session will provide valuable insights into bringing this new generation of applications to your business.
